May Day 2008: 'In the mood'

I've been so busy with the situation in Palestine lately i almost forgot- but didnt. got off work today and joined the protest for a bit before heading off to class. as i waited to cross the street to join the crowd, a white man turned to me and said: i'm so not in the mood for this.
not in the mood for worker's rights? not in the mood for rights of immigrants? not in the mood to stand in solidarity with other human beings? not in the mood to take a stand and call for justice?
excuse me, mr. america, when will you be in the mood? let me know, so i can write it down in my calendar and mark it down as:
THE DAY WE GET ALL THE RIGHTS WE DESERVE.
this year unfortunately did not see a big turn out as 2 years ago. this year is different however, given the recent events of Mahalla in egypt.
when i heard the chanting all around me i immediately felt sad....i don't know why. i thought about the injustice- how an entire group of people can be vilified. i thought about the wall to be built on the US-Mexico Border (which, by the way, both Obama and Hillary voted for.)
i thought about how some people in this country have the audacity to call other human beings illegal. i thought about how israeli policy- which since the very beginning and until now- continues to see Palestinians as illegal. All palestinians, be they citizens of israel, west bankers, gazans- pose a 'problem' for Israel- that said, Israeli politicians openly call for the mass transfer of Palestinians. Israeli historians such as Benny Morris have stated that Israelis should have 'finished the job' back in 1948. Even though Palestinians are the native inhabitants of the land, Israel simply cannot accept their existence.
the injustice continues, folks- and i'm in the mood to have my voice heard. Si se puede!

Sounds like the historian Benny Morris doesn't believe in the right of Palestinians to exist. Strange, how we in the USA never hear about that right.
Wonderful blog! I'll be following it on RSS. Thanks!
THE DAY WE GET ALL THE RIGHTS WE DESERVE.
"Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but they don't have the right to their own facts."
When Palestinians in Gaza can discuss history without the threat of execution without trial as "collaborators", that will be the time to discuss "rights".
Not before. Just in case you were wondering why the world isn't particularly sympathetic.
